Goals from Matej Vydra, Aaron Lennon and a late double by substitute Ashley Barnes earned Burnley a comprehensive 4-0 win over Bournemouth at Turf Moor to seal their first Premier League victory of the season. Vydra, making his first start for the club, capped it with the opening goal of the game with a clinical finish after 39 minutes before Lennon doubled Burnley’s advantage just 125 seconds later. Bournemouth dominated for large periods in the second half but they were impotent in attack and Burnley picked them off with two goals from Barnes on the counter-attack in the final 10 minutes.
Bournemouth went closest to opening the scoring when Nathan Ake’s shot deflected off Ben Mee and looped over Joe Hart onto the crossbar just past the quarter-hour mark. They had another golden chance to break the deadlock soon afterwards, when Callum Wilson was inches away from connecting to a Josh King cross with the goal gaping in front of him.
After surviving a couple of hairy moments at the back, it was Burnley who took the lead late in the half. Vydra, handed a full debut after his summer move from Derby County, was on hand to finish clinically from close range after Ashley Westwood’s half-volley had been diverted into his path by Ake’s block.
Moments later it was 2-0. Johann Gudmundsson latched onto a dinked ball down the line by Matthew Lowton, cut inside onto his favoured left foot and whipped a devilish cross to the far post, with Lennon sliding in to convert the chance into the corner. The visitors had a go in the second period and things might have been different for them had David Brooks scored his opportunity on the hour mark after being played through by Josh King, rather than seeing it brilliantly stopped by the onrushing Hart.
Eddie Howe threw on Junior Stanislas and Jermain Defoe in search of a route back into the game but instead it was one of Dyche’s substitutes who got the on the scoresheet next, as Barnes tapped in from close range after Gudmundsson’s volley had clanged off the foot of the post and into his path.
With two minutes remaining, Burnley flooded forward on the counter-attack after clearing a Bournemouth corner, with Lennon scampering onto a loose ball before teeing up Barnes to score a first-time effort beyond Asmir Begovic for the fourth and final goal of the game.
Derby v Brentford

Result: 3-1
Derby recovered to beat Brentford in the Championship after falling behind to Henrik Dalsgaard’s first-minute goal.
Dalsgaard gave the Bees the lead after just 44 seconds when he headed in Said Benrahma’s corner, but Harry Wilson slotted in to level after a quick counter-attack.
David Nugent lobbed Dan Bentley from 20 yards to put the Rams ahead and Mason Mount’s free-kick extended the lead. Both sides struggled to create clear chances after the break, Wilson going closest as he chipped narrowly wide. Kamo Mokotjo’s 25-yard effort was the nearest Brentford came to scoring late on, curling his shot just over Scott Carson’s goal.
The Bees dropped down to seventh in the table after a first defeat in five games in all competitions. Derby climbed to sixth, helped by another strong outing for Chelsea loanee Mason Mount who continues to impress with many touting him for an international squad call up.

Accrington v AFC Wimbledon
Our 1st Pick: 1
Result: 2-1
Goals from Billy Kee and Sean McConville secured Accrington’s first home win of the season as they beat AFC Wimbledon.
Stanley started strongly, with Joe McDonnell denying winger Jordan Clark in the first minute. Their opening goal came after when Kee fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the area for his fourth of the season. Stanley were bossing the half with Kee, McConville and Sam Finley all coming close.
Wimbledon must have had an ear-bashing from boss Neal Ardley at half-time and they immediately threatened after the break with Liam Trotter’s effort from six yards out blocked, but it was Stanley who struck next.
Winger McConville’s strike from the edge of the area took a big deflection into the top corner, leaving McDonnell rooted to the spot. Wimbledon upped their game and a solo effort from substitute Scott Wagstaff got them back in it, the winger cutting inside and blasting past Connor Ripley and they could have levelled moments later with Jake Jervis forcing Ripley into a strong save.

Scunthorpe v Shrewsbury
Our 1st Pick: 2
Result: 1-0
Scunthorpe’s wait for a first home win of the season in League One ended at the fifth attempt as they beat Shrewsbury. Iron front man Lee Novak bagged what proved to be the winner early in the second half, getting the faintest of touches to Josh Morris’ cross as the ball nestled into the far corner.
Novak’s strike settled what was for long spells a tame affair, with both sides guilty of giving the ball away cheaply, particularly during a first half in which neither keeper had a save to make until added time.
After the break, the Iron took the game by the scruff of the neck and were rewarded when Novak flicked in his third goal of the campaign. Scunthorpe striker Ike Ugbo had the chance to net a quick second for the hosts, only to be denied by the chest of visiting keeper Joel Coleman when through one-on-one.
It might have been a costly miss had the Shrews been able to capitalise on a decent spell of pressure just after the hour mark, but Greg Docherty fired wide and Lee Angol skewed another past the post.
Morecambe v Macclesfield

Result: 2-1
Morecambe secured a vital three points with a 2-1 victory over fellow League Two strugglers Macclesfield, who sit at the foot of the table.
Andy Fleming was Morecambe’s match winner after Macclesfield’s Danny Whitaker had cancelled out AJ Leitch-Smith’s opener. The first half produced few clear chances but Macclesfield were reduced to 10 men when former Morecambe skipper Michael Rose was given a straight red for a poor challenge on Alex Kenyon on the halfway line.
Liam Mandeville had the best opportunity to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes when the Morecambe striker curled an effort inches over the bar before Macclesfield goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara saved smartly from Rhys Oates. Morecambe failed to make the man advantage count until just after the hour-mark when Leith-Smith gave the hosts the lead with his first goal for the club.
Mark Yates’ side hit back with a smart goal from veteran Whitaker on 72 minutes as he smashed home after Morecambe failed to clear a long thrown from James Pearson. The visitors were then undone a second time as they pushed bodies forward and were caught out on the counter attack as Andrew Tutte played in Fleming for the midfielder to produce a fine finish to beat O’Hara.

Blackpool v Luton Town

Result: 0-0
Blackpool stretched their unbeaten run in League One to seven games with a goalless draw against Luton at Bloomfield Road. The result moves the Tangerines up to eighth in the table, with Nathan Jones’ side slipping down to 12th.
Neither team could find a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes, with Andrew Shinnie having Luton’s clearest chance as his low drive was saved by Mark Howard. Liam Feeney had the hosts’ best opportunity but his 25-yard strike was tipped over by James Shea.
Luton started the second half brightly and Jorge Grant tested Howard with an effort from just inside the area. However, Blackpool weathered that spell of Hatters pressure and Jordan Thompson almost found a breakthrough on the hour-mark, but his header from Nathan Delfouneso’s cross drifted just wide. The Hatters almost stole all three points late on as Elliot Lee forced Howard into a fine save with a long-range strike.
Oldham v Colchester

Result: 3-3
Oldham produced a storming late comeback to snatch a 3-3 draw at home to fellow high-flyers Colchester. The visitors stretched their season-long unbeaten away run but two goals in the last five minutes earned a dramatic point for the Latics.
Colchester went ahead when Brennan Dickenson’s corner was helped on to the back post for Luke Norris to stab in from six yards. It was 2-0 soon after half-time as Oldham failed to clear another Dickenson corner, giving Harry Pell the chance to drive high into the net from 16 yards.
Frankie Bunn’s home side replied as Sam Surridge applied a simple finish at the far post to convert Andy Taylor’s cross. But Norris struck again when he forced his way into the penalty area and drilled home his sixth goal of the campaign.
Surridge also completed a personal double as he glanced in Dan Gardner’s free-kick and, with two minutes to play, Andy Taylor’s corner was powered in by the head of Oldham captain Peter Clarke to ensure the honours ended even.
QPR v Norwich City

Result: 0-1
Norwich City recorded a third successive Championship win as Teemu Pukki’s second-half goal was enough to beat Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. The Finland international chested in Marco Stiepermann’s cross from the left wing on 71 minutes to net his fifth goal in as many games for club and country.
Rangers came close to an equaliser when Luke Freeman’s powerful effort from distance was tipped over by Canaries keeper Tim Krul, while Eberechi Eze fired wide from outside the box. The west Londoners had taken 10 points from four games heading into the match but Steve McClaren’s side suffered their fifth defeat of the league campaign despite putting the visitors under late pressure.
Norwich had gone eight months without an away win in the Championship but now have two in the space of four days, adding to their victory at Reading in midweek. Daniel Farke’s men bossed possession and almost went ahead midway through the first half when Pukki was inches away from getting on the end of Jamal Lewis’ low cross.
Pukki’s fifth league goal of the season was a good piece of improvisation as the in-form striker diverted the ball past R’s keeper Joe Lumley from 10 yards out after Stiepermann’s ball in had flicked off Toni Leistner. Rangers rarely tested Tim Krul in the Norwich goal, with the Dutchman making a routine save from Nahki Wells just before the break.
Victory moves Norwich into the top half of the table, with the Canaries now two points off the play-off places, while QPR remain 16th.
Eupen v Oostende
Our 1st Pick: 2
Result: 1-2
Oostende came out on top with what was a thrilling match in the Belgian Pro League. We had gone for an away win as our first pick based on head to head record as well as current form and it proved true as the visitors scored a second half winner.
The visitors got off to a flying start and were duly rewarded when Fashion Sakala found the back of the back of the net in and around the 13th minute. This silenced the vociferous home crowd as the home side tried to rally back. The rest of the half was pretty uneventful as the teams headed into the break with the visitors 1 nil up.
Eupen rallied in the second half and they were rewarded for their efforts when Luis Garcia equalized in the 59th minute. Their victory was short-lived though as Richairo pulled the visitors ahead once again just 5 minutes later. This proved to be the winning goal as the visitors held on for a vital win.

Montpellier v Nice

Result: 1-0
Montpellier came out victors in what was a rather lacklustre affair in the French Ligue 1. We had gone for a stalemate as our pick based on head to head records between the two sides but profligacy in front of goal by the visitors nullified our prediction.
The match seemed to be destined for a high-scoring affair when Gaetan Laborde found the back of the net for the hosts but it proved to be the only goal-mouth action of the match. The visitors were simply wasteful when presented with goal-scoring opportunities as the hosts held on for a vital 3 points.
Notably, the visitors had a goal disallowed midway through the second half with the linesman flagging it for offside while the hosts had a chance to make it 2 nil at the very end but Laborde so his stunning strike hit the woodwork with Nice’s keeper well and truly beaten.
Reims v Dijon

Result: 0-0
Reims had turned in a resolute performance on the road against Nantes prior to this encounter which further indicated how they will endeavor to play this season, staking their hopes for survival on graft and defensive solidity.
Dijon on the other hand, were poor in losing at home to Angers. The visitors were hoping for improvement here, but were unlikely to enjoy an easy time of it, even against Ligue 1’s poorest attack. We had backed the away team due to their superior h2h record as well as experience in the French Ligue 1 but the barren draw nullified our prediction.
It was a pretty uneventful match with chances coming very far and in between as both teams seemed pretty satisfied to settle for a point and given the general run of play, a share of the spoils seemed the fair outcome.
St.Truiden v Royal Antwerp

The saints emerged victorious in yet another thrilling match in the Belgian Pro League last weekend. We had backed the home side to carry the day based on home form record and it proved an accurate prediction after the final whistle.
The first half was pretty uneventful as it was a cagey affair with both sides seemingly okay with sitting back and waiting for counter attacking opportunities.
This all changed right at the start of the second half when the hosts sparked to life just 3 minutes into it with Casper De Norre the scorer. This sent the home crowd into delirium and spurred the hosts ahead. The visitors did get a few sniffs at goal but they only had themselves to blame for not capitalizing on their chances.
Daichi Kamada scored the 2nd match of the goal in additional time to put the match well and truly beyond doubt.
KAA Gent v Brugge

Gent suffered from a 2-1loss to St. Truiden at home and they were willing to give their fans a better cheer in this game. They had played four home league games; they had won two, drawn one and lost one.
Gent had won three games and lost two in their last five meetings with Brugge. The two teams had proved to be better while playing at home which explains why we had backed the home team to carry the day. Our prediction was thoroughly nullified as the visitors came out as resounding victors.
The visitors dominated the match right from kick off and Arnaut Danjuma broke the deadlock in and around the 33rd minute. Wesley Moraes then ensured that he would be heading home with the match-ball when he scored 3 goals in the second half to put the match beyond the hapless hosts while stunning the home crowd into silence.
Chievo v Udinese

Result: 0-2
Chievo came into this spicy encounter having played 4 matches and seating at position 20 in the Italian Serie A. The hosts had won none, drawn 1 time and lost 1 time in their overall 2 matches played at home with their last encounter having been a memorable 2-2 draw against Roma. This was part of the reason we backed them to get their 1st home win in this one. However, our prediction proved incorrect as the visitors stormed into a two goal lead in the last 20 minutes of the game.
In their last 5 h2h Chievo FC had won 3 times. Udinese none and drawn 2 times. This formed the core basis of our prediction but Rodrigo De Paul had the match of his season so far as he scored one and set up another to guarantee that the hosts went away with a vital 3 points.
The defeat meant that Chievo remain rooted to the bottom of the table having won none of their matches so far and are currently favorites for the drop.
PSV Eindhoven v Ajax

PSV came into this highly anticipated encounter as the only Eredivisie club with a 100% record with an enviable 33 match unbeaten run in their last 33 league games at home, with four of those being draws. This explains why we backed the hosts for a win and it proved an accurate prediction by the final whistle.
The home team stepped into this one from a commendable 7-0 victory over ADO Den Haag and they picked up from where they left off as they got off to a flying start.
Goals from Gaston Pereiro, Luuk De Jong and Hirving Lozano in the 1st half were enough to ensure that the hosts came out as comfortable victors and thus maintained their 100% record in the 2018/2019 Dutch Eredivisie.
CSKA Moscow v Spartak Moscow

Result: 1-1
Although Dinamo Moscow vs Spartak Moscow has the distinction of being Russia’s oldest derby, CSKA Moscow vs Spartak Moscow is now considered to be the most heated derby in all of Russia. CSKA came into this one having played 7 matches are at position 5 with 12 points in the 2018/2019 Russian Premier League while their arch rivals were 2 positions ahead of them with a tally of 14 points.
We had backed the away team to carry the day based on h2h records as well as current form but our prediction proved innacurate with the visitors getting their equalizer deep into the second half after Fernando had pulled the visitors ahead in and around the 30th minute.
Encounters between these two have always been fiery ever since the hosts were financially acquired in the early 2000’s and this was no different as the players and fans alike were fired up. No quarter was given and hence chances were far and in between with a mere 3 shot on target the total tally for both teams by the end of the game.
Given the general run of play, a share of the spoils seemed like the fair outcome in what is already shaping up to be a thrilling season.
Eintracht Frankfurt v RB Leipzig

After beating last season’s Europa League runners up Marseille in the opening match of the same competition on Thursday, Eintracht Frankfurt came into this one in good spirits, if not only for the fact that they did so, despite being down to 10-men.
RB Leipzig’s mid-week Europa League outing was not as promising as Frankfurt’s, having suffered a late 3-2 defeat at the hands of Red Bull Salzburg. Leipzig have had hot and cold patches since the start of the 17/18 season, and based on the way the Red Bulls have started their 18/19 campaign, you can only assume it’s in part due to the strain of juggling both league and European competition.
Leipzig were comprehensively beat 4-1 away to Borussia Dortmund in their only Bundesliga away match this season – a match that came shortly after an away trip to Ukrainian outfit Zorya – whereas their only league win so far – last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Hannover – came after a full week of rest. Leipzig had just a few days to recover since Thursday, and the possible absence of star forward Timo Werner, who was rested against Salzburg after picking up a knock last weekend, made this even trickier.
We backed a stalemate as our pick based purely on fatigue levels on both sides and it proved an accurate prediction by the end of 90 minutes of regulation time. Gelson Fernandes pulled the hosts ahead in the 26th minute but a successfully converted penalty by Emil Forsberg in and around the 53rd minute ensured a share of the spoils as both sides stepped off the accelerator and settled for a draw.
